Travel passes changed - but not stopped

Many thanks to my colleague Norwood Councillor David Sumner for supplying the following guide to the changes in rules for  Concessionary Travel Passes.

The Department for Transport have announced that, from 6th April 2010, the age at which a travel pass can be applied for will change from the current 60 years to 65 years.  This change will be introduced over the next 10 years and will mean that eventually the concessionary pass will start on the same day as the state pension.

To see what this will mean for you, please visit the pension age calculator on the Direct Gov website. As an example if you were born on 26th June 1950 you can apply for the concessaionary travel pass from 6th September 2010 (not on your birthday as was previously the case) or here's a good one, born between 6th July - 5th Aug 1953 you would be eligible on 6th Nov 2016 but born on the 6th  August, you don't get a pass until 6th Jan 2017.

This does not affect disabled passes.
